On September 11, 2025, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) State Energy Office announced a $10 million Home Repair Weatherization Readiness Program that will supplement funds provided through the statewide Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). Of the $10 million in program funds available, $6 million will be provided to the Western Piedmont Council of Governments, a regional planning agency in western North Carolina, and $4 million to a collection of nine current WAP service providers throughout western and central regions of the state.

Through the Home Repair Weatherization Readiness Program, the State Energy Office aims to support more than 575 households with resolving home repair issues that need to be addressed before they can receive WAP funds. The program will be available to households that were affected by Hurricane Helene or are identified by either the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development or state as “Most Impacted and Distressed” under the State of North Carolina Action Plan.
